Fine Fiddling

Tue&Wed from 4.30pm £26 per hour, £13 per half hour

Moira Gilchrist has developed a method of teaching which blends her classical violin training with elements of traditional fiddle styles. Whether you're a complete beginner or dusting off that violin lurking in the loft since you were at school Moira can get you on the road to fiddling for fun.

Piano – Regular or Rockin’

Mon, Tue, Wed&Thu from 5pm £20 per hour, £10 per half hour

Musicians Jonathan Greenwood and Gordon Scott teach both classical and rock&pop piano. So whether you’re a complete novice or fancy trying out a new style then here’s your chance to get you tinkling those ivories like a pro. Ideal for players of all standards – the emphasis here is on fun and trying out all sorts of new musical styles as well as establishing a solid technique for playing and reading music.

Claire Pinder-Smith

Prema welcomes new musician Claire Pinder-Smith to the team of musicians in the Music Suite.

Claire is an accomplished saxophonist and clarinettist originally from the North East of England and studied music at The University of Sunderland. At the age of 15 she became a frequent member of BBC Big band of the year, Musicians Unlimited, under the direction of Mick Donnelly. And become voted leader of Musicians Unlimited Youth Jazz Orchestra. Along side Big Band, Claire was also a member of Northern Ska Outfit ‘The G-Men’ performing throughout the north. The band gained notoriety throughout Europe with a special following from the good people of Germany. Claire continued her studies at Birmingham City University; here she gained her PGCE in Music for Secondary Education. Through all of this Claire has continued to teach, working with The Northern School of Music and in secondary schools across the country. Claire is a proud to say that all of her pupils have a 100% pass rate in their exams!

Practical Sax and Clarinet
Claire offers lessons on saxophones and clarinet. If you want to play for fun or want to study grades, learn to play Jazz to Classical or Pop to Ska! Whether you are a beginner or have musical experience, here’s your chance to brush up your skills!

Brushing up on Music Theory
Learning music theory will allow you to have a deeper understanding of music in general, whether you want to learn to improve your practical ability or help you to write your own music, as well as improvise. Following the ABRSM syllabus you will soon advance through theoretical knowledge and see an improvement in your playing.

GCSE and A Level Tuition
GCSE and A level are amongst the most difficult subjects to study. Claire has experience and is fully qualified to tutor towards both qualifications across many different syllabuses.
