Use creative problem solving to build amazing, gravity-defying structures from recycled card and other delicious junk. Artist, illustrator and super-maker Lisa Yardley will set you the challenge and be on hand to help make your designs come to life — then it’s all hands on deck. Draw on individual strengths within your family group and see what you can make when you work as a team. Bring a picnic lunch.

Something In The Woodshed
Den Building Day

In this timeless workshop you’ll get to re-live those heady childhood days of tree houses and dens made from clothes horses and old blankets — there’s no place like home when you’ve made it yourself! Join the adventurous Bradshaw Family for a day of fortresses and teepees and work as a family to create your own unique den; you’ll pick up lots of useful and imaginative tips along the way to try out at home. Raid your cupboards for old sheets and any bits and bobs to furnish your den and get ready to have some real fun together.

Print Playground

Join printmaker Simon Tozer for this one-day printing workshop for families with an emphasis on fun and trying stuff out. Using simple techniques you will create a variety of relief prints, both large and small, using diverse materials such as Plasticine, foam rubber, Lego and other toys. Participants can even expect to print their own lunch — all perfectly safe (toast and butter provided, but please bring your choice of toppings).

Rhythm Sticks

Love your beats and tapping out rhythms? This uplifting and energising morning workshop is a must for families with energy to burn. It’s a great way to connect as a family and make music together, learning grooves and breaks with rhythm games and body + voice percussion. Join Stuart Dunn for some high-energy drums and percussion and learn and perform samba, reggae and hip-hop beats – play ‘em loud!

Family Movie

By popular demand, animator Matt Pollock is back! Bringing his boxes of tricks and super talent, Matt’s offering another one-day intensive workshop to get you going. Learn how to use stop-motion animation to make your own movie. The process lends itself really well to animating found objects or possessions so bring a selection of toys from home and work as a family to make them come alive in an animated short film. Think dinosaurs and Lego, or Barbie and Play Doh – your very own Toy Story! A great day out for the family – don’t forget to bring a lunch along.
